South African singer Holly Rey has offered a poignant update on her ongoing health journey since her December hospitalisation for severe dehydration leading to acute kidney injury.
In a recent Instagram post, the “Deeper” hitmaker challenged the conventional notion of strength, revealing the raw reality behind her resilience.
Rey, who has also been diagnosed with anaemia and high blood pressure, shared that her strength isn’t about constant fighting or hiding vulnerability. Instead, she described it as the simple act of waking up each day and trying, even when overwhelmed.
“The past three months have been a whirlwind of health changes.
“I’ve found my strength in waking up and trying my best! Some days that looks like doing multiple tasks, and some days it looks like just being able to shower. But the biggest achievement is that I wake up and make the effort to try,” she wrote, detailing her experience with kidney failure, the need for a blood pressure pump, and a significant dietary shift.
“Some days are good and some days are bad but slowly the bad days get fewer and the good days come around more often.
“So no matter what you are going through and no matter how hopeless or weak you feel, this is just a reminder that your choice to wake up and everyday and try YOUR best is your strength,” Rey wrote on Instagram.
Her candid reflection resonated deeply with fans, as she acknowledged the emotional toll of her health struggles.
Rey emphasised that true strength lies in facing each day, taking it “bite-sized chunk” at a time, and celebrating even the smallest victories.
