The wait is almost over for the matric class of 2024 as Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube readies to announce the matric results in Pretoria today.
Gwarube will announce the results at a national level while students’ individual results will be released to the media on Tuesday, 14 January.
According to reports, the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results will be published online from 6AM tomorrow.
Over 870 000 candidates will learn their fate after they completed their final NSC examinations in November 2024.
This number consists of over 700 000 full-time and 155 000 part time candidates.
The results have already been marred by a number of issues, however.
This past weekend, anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee exposed a website that was selling NSC matric results for R100 online. As a result, some students were able to get their results via email before the official release.
According to Abramjee, the website has since been taken down and the matter is under investigation.
“Minister of @DBE_SA @Siviwe_G says the Hawks and State Security have been brought in to investigate the matric exam result breach. A Joburg company started selling the results for R100 at the weekend. The Minister says possible involvement of officials and/or cyber crime breach is part of the probe,” Abramjee wrote.

Meanwhile, the Information Regulator lost its battle to Interdict the Department of Basic Education from publishing the results in the media when the Gauteng High Court struck the case off the roll on Wednesday last week.
This will be the first set of matric results released government of national unity (GNU) and the spotlight is on the class of 2024 to see if they can top last year’s 82.9% pass rate.
