The South African Police Service (SAPS) has strongly condemned the killing of two police officers in Namahadi, Free State on Saturday, 4 January 2025.
According to reports the police officers were brutally killed while performing their duties.
According to preliminary reports, the Community Service Center (CSC) officers reportedly responded to a complaint regarding a home invasion in Mangaung village at approximately 10PM. A crime prevention van with three more people provided backup to them.
The SAPS believes that the suspects, who had balaclavas over their faces, also took two cell phones and an undisclosed sum of money from the home invasion victim.
According to the police, the investigation is still underway and the suspects are still at large.
“Upon arriving at the scene, two suspects fled the house, prompting a chase by the crime prevention team. Meanwhile, the CSC members approached the house, where one suspect emerged and opened fire. One member was fatally shot, and his service pistol was taken by the suspect.
“As the pursuit continued, another suspect ambushed the driver of the backup vehicle while he was reversing the police vehicle. He was shot in the neck and succumbed to his injuries. The other police officers in the vehicle were unharmed,” said the SAPS.
