The MK Party’s National Organiser, Floyd Shivambu, recently joined Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh on his podcast, where he addressed a range of topics, including his reasons for departing from the EFF.
The Siz The World team delved into the shift in Shivambu’s stance since he last referred to Malema as a “brother.”
Floyd clarified that his connection with Julius Malema is strictly political. “That is how it is. I have no bad feelings against anyone. I relate much easier with comrades in the ANC. I don’t have any personal feelings against anyone.”
Shivambu continued, saying, “I still talk to some of the comrades in the EFF but I can establish that there is a political relationship. Sometimes these so-called brotherhoods are not brotherhoods. It borders on gangster relationships—we are together; if a person is wrong, we can’t call each other to order.”
The former EFF member added, “We shouldn’t be expected to defend one another if someone is behaving improperly.”
“One should be able to call out certain things if they’re unacceptable. Personal relationships can’t take precedence over political principles. It is not a gangster relationship where we will die together,” said Shivambu in part.” Shivambu remarked.
“If there’s a shift in principles, then we can no longer relate in the same way as before. You must be able to say that this is not what I signed up for.”
Listeners of Siz The World joined the conversation by sharing their views on the evolving dynamic between Shivambu and Malema.
