
Eric Kulani Giyani Nkovani, popularly known as Papa Penny, is officially a member of parliament. He is one of ten MK Party politicians who have been sworn in as members of parliament.

In May 2024, Papa Penny dumped the ANC and joined the newly formed MK Party (MKP) stating that “the party is a home for disgruntled people of South Africa”
Thoko Didiza, Speaker of the National Assembly, administered the oath of office to the group on Wednesday in Cape Town’s Goodhope Chamber Building.

The group featured former EFF MP Mzwanele Manyi, reality TV sensation, and veteran singer Gezani Eric Nkovani, well known as Papa Penny, and Sinawo Tambo, who is expected to replace Floyd Shivambu.
In other related news, the uMkhonto Wesizwe party performed exceptionally well in Rustenburg, North West, defeating the ANC and the EFF. They won the first ward outside KwaZulu-Natal, securing 43% of the by-election vote in Photsaneng, Rustenburg in the North West, on Wednesday.
Ward 45 (Photsaneng Marikana Rustenburg: 43% MK, 33% ANC (44% PR), and 24% EFF (35% PR).
