Thousands of avid spectators marvelled at the sight of the total solar eclipse which was witnessed across North America, Canada, Mexico and the United States.
On Monday, 08 April solar eclipse watch parties dominated social media, as excitement grew over the moon passing between the sun and Earth.
The eclipse lasted an estimated 4 minutes and 28 seconds, and the result was total darkness for the duration of the phase.
According to NASA, the next total solar eclipse will take place on 23 August 2044.
Reactions over the total solar eclipse have people in awe, having seen the sun’s outer core or corona for the first time.
You cannot normally look at the sun long enough to notice the corona, but during the total solar eclipse, people noted seeing a red ring.
Spectators who came out in their numbers to witness the rare event had to wear specialized protective eyewear.
Only during the brief moment of the total phase, when the moon completely blocks the sun’s light, can the protective eyewear be removed.
