The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is reportedly investigating the alleged assault on Dr Nandipha Magudumana.
This after lead attorney, Advocate Machini Motloung shared on Monday, 18 March that his client, Dr Nandipha was reportedly assaulted by two inmates due to her “incessant praying.”
Advocate Motloung said Dr Nandipha suffered pain and bruising to her body as a result of the assault on her, however in an interview with Newzroom Afrika, DCS officials said there were no visible bruises on the doctor who is awaiting trial.
Dr Nandipha was allegedly assaulted by a sangoma and mentally challenged inmate, and she has filed a case of grievous bodily harm.
According to Motloung, the doctor who is accused of aiding and abetting her lover and convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester with his brazen prison escape, was pushed against the grills and attacked because her praying has been causing a rift between the sangoma and other inmates.
Her attorney said there were no prison officials present to prevent the attack from happening, and Dr Nandipha had been advocating for a while about her safety, as there have reportedly been several threats against her.
Advocate Motloung says he is still awaiting a detailed report from DCS explaining what transpired and confirmed that Dr Nandipha has filed a case of grievous bodily harm following the recent assault incident.
