In a shocking turn of events, Joslin Smith’s mother and boyfriend are amongst four people who have made appearances at the Vredenberg Magistrates Court on Thursday, 07 March facing charges in the child’s disappearance.
Six-year old Joslin from Diazville, Saldanha Bay went missing on 19 February allegedly whilst in the care of her mother, Kelly’s boyfriend, Jacquin Appollis.
Kelly and Appollis who are Tik (crystal meth) users, are implicated after rumours the mother and boyfriend had sold Joslin pushed police to detain them, along with two others for questioning.
Joslin’s mother and boyfriend, as well as another man and woman, are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking, and the State believes they are a step closer to finding out where Joslin is, or what happened to her.
Showing no emotion during her court appearance, Joslin’s mother along with the three others who were allegedly accomplices in the plot to sell her child are remanded in custody.
The investigation continues, and community search teams are still on the ground searching for Joslin, but so far all leads have been dead ends.
On Saturday, 02 March police found blood-stained clothing believed to be the 6-year old girls in an open field.
The discovery was made a few kilometres from the Diazville, Saldanha Bay informal settlement that Joslin went missing from on Monday, 19 February.
Joslin’s biological father, Jose Emke was present at the court.
Emke, who last saw his missing daughter in November, shares another child with Kelly, whom he is now fighting for custody of.
