6 ANC supporters die in a bus accident on their way to the party’s 112th birthday celebration.
On Saturday 13 January 2024 at approximately 03:20 on the R71 at the bottom of Magoebaskloof direction Tzaneen Limpopo.
An investigation into the crash’s exact cause is still underway. As soon as new information is received, it will be supplied.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety has said that the buses were carrying ANC members from the Molemole Sub- Region, within the Capricorn District Municipality.
The fatalities were confirmed by Police Minister Bheki Cele that six members lost their lives, while at least 18 others were injured.

“Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, and other Government Leaders, have been recused from the January 8 Statement in Mbombela, to attend to an accident scene on the R71, at the Makgoebaskloof outside Tzaneen.
The accident happened around 3h30 am, on Saturday, 13 January 2024. She will be leading a team of government Leaders, including the MEC for Health, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, the Executive Mayor of Mopani District, Clr Pule Shayi, the Mayor of Molemole Local Municipality, Clr Edward Paya, and other government leaders as they will be visiting the scene of the accident, and patients in various hospitals. Preliminary reports indicate that 3 buses were following each other, when the third bus hit the second one from behind, and overturned into a gorge.
The buses were carrying ANC members from the Molemole Sub- Region, within the Capricorn District Municipality. Unconfirmed reports indicate that there are 5 fatalities from the accident, with several passengers sustaining injuries. The injured passengers have been transferred to hospitals in the Mopani district. The road is currently closed as emergency and rescue personnel are clearing the scene, and further details will be provided in due course.”
