Congratulations to Bafana and Al Ahly SC midfielder Percy Tau, who was named 2023’s Men Interclub Player of the Year by CAF following a brilliant season.
Tau made 12 appearances in the competition, scoring five goals and five assists. The 29-year-old made history earlier this year after he became the first South African to win two Champions League titles.
He played in both halves of the 2022–23 Caf Champions League final, in which Al Ahly defeated Wydad Casablanca to win.
Tau was not the only South African who won on a historic evening; Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis was named coach of the year. Mamelodi Sundowns’ women’s team was named the Women’s Club of the Year for 2023.
🦁 @AlAhly's Lion of Judah claims the title!
