There was a time in DJ Speedsta‘s career when he constantly found himself in the middle of Twitter spats. Week after week, he found himself caught up in these online scuffles. Reflecting on that period, he admitted to DJ Fresh that it had a negative impact on his professional life.
“I lost a lot of deals because of my rants. That transpired to the word getting around that I was a problem child, leading me to where I am right now.”
This experience served as a wake-up call for the 31-year-old, forcing him to accept that “life isn’t always fair.”
Seeking a break from the fast-paced lifestyle of Johannesburg, Speedsta recently made the decision to move to Cape Town.
“I wanted to do it in 2009, but it wasn’t easy because I couldn’t just get up and leave. Last year, when love and hip-hop came about, I took a chance and asked if they’d mind if I shot in Joburg while living in Cape Town. It made things a lot easier. I didn’t have any friends when I moved there, and it was perfect because I just wanted some peace and quiet,” he told Fresh.
“I also wanted to catch a breather after my peers in the hip-hop space passed. I wanted to live life and regroup.”
