A 32-year Klerksdorp father is still fighting for his life in hospital, following a brawl which left him with severe injuries to his brain.
Hilton Pretorius was viciously assaulted in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Doringkruin, Klerksdorp in the North West, last weekend.
The assault which was captured on video and went viral on social media, shows Pretorius laying motionless in a pool of his own blood.
His attacker, 33-year Wernich Botha, was arrested and released on bail of R2 000 for the assault which saw two men attacked with punches to their faces.
Botha faces charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Pretorius’ family says the young father, was left with bleeding on the brain and he is still in the ICU.
The family has started a Back A Buddy funding page to raise money for Hilton Pretorius’ exorbitant hospital bills.
A R500 000 target has been set to cover Pretorius’ medical and legal bills.
“A beloved father, son and brother is currently fighting for his life in hospital. He was assaulted and the person who assaulted him was arrested with a case of attempted murder, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Hilton suffered very serious injuries and is currently in intensive care. His skull is cracked, he has bleeding on the brain and he is being kept under sedation at this time.
His medical and legal expenses are astronomical. We ask for any help, if possible, to help the family in this regard.”
The case against Wernich Botha has been postponed to 19 October.
