‘We want an alternative’ – Former ANC SG Ace Magashule launches a new political party called ACT.
Ace Magashule, a former ANC secretary-general, has changed political affiliations and founded the African Congress for Transformation (ACT).
Magashule made the announcement of the new party’s creation on Wednesday during a briefing in Vilikazi Street, Soweto.
After being accused of misconduct by the party for improperly suspending President Cyril Ramaphosa, Magashule was expelled from the ANC in June.
According to him, former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma, activists, and “fighters” were all consulted before the creation.
He emphasized that his decision to create the new party was influenced by the fact that the ANC had faced internal strife and had strayed from its founding ideals.
“We are now going to announce a new ship for Freedom, and I want to say to all South Africans that here is a new ship for freedom. Come along and join us, if you have been feeling politically abused.” said Magashule
