Hip hop artist and TV personality, Jub Jub has been released on bail of R10 000, after being arrested for rape, assault and attempted murder.
The Uyajola 9/9 presenter who reportedly handed himself over at the Brixton Police Station on Thursday morning, 27 July, made a brief appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court where he was granted bail.
Gauteng Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the 43-year old, whose real name is Molemo Katleho Maarohanye handed himself over to police.
According to reports Jub Jub handed himself over to police after receiving a tip-off of the charges against him.
The matter was under investigation and a decision for his arrest was reportedly made by the NPA.
While this is a developing story, in 2021, Jub Jub’s ex-girlfriend, Amanda du Pont accused Jub Jub of raping her for two years whilst in a relationship with him.
At the time Amanda hit back at Jub Jub’s comments in an interview, where he bragged that he “smashed her.”
In an emotional video declaration, Amanda revealed that she was scared to leave the relationship with Jub Jub, and claimed she had to have an abortion.
“There are three things that I want to address. The first was that he smashed me. First of all, Molemo you raped me. I was raped for two years. So, please don’t make it sound like it was a relationship. I was absolutely afraid to leave.
I had an abortion, of course, because there was absolutely no way I would have a child that was forcibly given to me. And the most painful part about all of this is that I was a virgin.
And I told Jub Jub that I was a virgin and I planned to be a virgin until the day I got married.”
