Eskom announced the surprising exit of its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Jan Operholzer by “mutual agreement.”
In a statement issued on Monday, 17 July, the power utility said although Oberholzer had been attached to a 2-year contract, the COO’s last day will be on 31 July.
Oberholzer had been tasked to provide support to the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in a long-term operation and to oversee the Kusile Power Station projects.
“Eskom expresses gratitude to Mr Jan Oberholzer for his dedicated service, expertise and valuable contributions during his tenure. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Oberholzer’s departure from the power utility comes after a 30-year tenure at Eskom and follows the abrupt exit of former CEO, Andre de Ruyter.
The former COO retired in April.

Meanwhile, South Africans have been promised reduced phases of loadshedding after days of stage six load shedding, according to Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
The country will be less likely to experience significant levels of rolling power cuts, the minister claimed, as more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity were anticipated to return to the grid on Tuesday.
During his briefing, Ramokgopa apologised to the nation for Stage 6 loadshedding that was implemented on Thursday.
