Ramokgopa confirms that 126 people were arrested for crimes at Eskom since 1 April 2022
Since April 1 2022, at least 126 people have been detained at Eskom for a variety of offenses.
In addition to these arrests, 2,147 criminal cases were opened, of which 1,586 are under investigation.
The country’s energy action plan is being protected by security measures, according to an update from the minister of electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
He said there is a process to root out syndicates in communities across the country.
“We’ve been checking on secondhand dealers and will elaborate on that later. At this stage we have carried out 15,043 compliance inspections, and we are cutting the arteries of syndicates,” say Ramokgopa.

Ramokgopa responds to the introduction of Stage 6 loadshedding
South Africans have been promised reduced phases of loadshedding after days of stage six load shedding, according to Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
The country will be less likely to experience significant levels of rolling power cuts, the minister claimed, as more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity were anticipated to return to the grid on Tuesday.
During his briefing, Ramokgopa apologised to the nation for Stage 6 loadshedding that was implemented on Thursday.
“I want to express our sincere and profuse apology for having taken you through a very difficult stage of intensive loadshedding.
“Firstly, load shedding is unacceptable. The second part is that going to higher stages of loadshedding, especially Stage 6, should not become the norm. If anything, that should constitute an extraordinary occurrence. The intensity of loadshedding that goes beyond Stage 4 is something that should be unacceptable and it’s something that, to the degree that we can… we will do everything to avoid,” he said.
