On Sunday, July 2, Banyana Banyana players refused to play in their friendly match against Botswana at the Tsakane Stadium, citing dissatisfaction over the quality of the pitch.
In addition, it was reported that the players are also demanding a million rand each for participating in their three World Cup Group G matches.
Kaya 959 understands that Banyana Banyana would not be getting any compensation from the federation outside of the R562k from FIFA.
CAF president and South African businessman, Patrice Motsepe has reportedly stepped in to help resolve the dispute.
“This dispute involving the women’s team was a major embarrassment not just for South Africa but all of Africa,” a source told News24 on condition of anonymity.
The team is set to travel for the FIFA 23 World Cup, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Banyana Banyana will play Costa Rica in a warm-up match on July 15, eight days before their opening match against Wellington in Sweden.
