Alison Botha’s rapists have been placed on parole almost 30-years after leaving her for dead on the side of the road.
This has been confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services on Tuesday, 04 July, who say despite Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger being sentenced to life imprisonment, having served the minimum required time, both men are now considered for parole placement.
“This is not about an inmate completing programmes or having served the minimum required time. Placing a lifer back into community has to satisfy all the structures in the parole consideration process in terms of rehabilitation and the risk involved. The Minister is ultimately the decision maker, as empowered by Section 78 of the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998.
Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger have been admitted into the system of community corrections, whereby they are expected to comply with the specific set of parole conditions and will be subjected to supervision for the rest of their natural life.”
Department of Correctional Services on Alison Botha’s rapists being placed on parole
In 1994, Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger abducted Alison at knife-point outside her home. She was driven into a nature reserve off the outskirts of her hometown.
Alison Botha was raped by both men, her neck was slashed 17 times, she had been stabbed in the stomach 37 times and disemboweled.
Left for dead, Alison miraculously survived and is now an inspirational speaker, and her story is known across the world.
Her documentary, Alison, is a SAFTA nominated production, detailing her incredible will to live and overcome the traumatic ordeal she endured.
Despite Alison pleading with the Department of Correctional Services to keep her attackers behind bars, both men have reportedly satisfied all the structures in the parole consideration process in terms of rehabilitation and the risk involved.
The men have been admitted into the system of community corrections, whereby they are expected to comply with a specific set of parole conditions and will be subjected to supervision for the rest of their natural life.
