The death toll in a Uganda school shooting massacre has climbed to 41, with government officials expecting more casualties as the wreckage from the blaze is sifted through.
On Saturday, 17 June, the Ugandan Police Force confirmed the attack which has since been linked to Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists, who targeted the Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, Uganda.
Victims were burned alive, shot or hacked to death by suspected rebels, about 2kms from the Democratic Republic of Congo border.
In a statement by Ugandan authorities, police are said to be investigating the massacre, and said more details will be made available in due course.
Survivors were rushed to the Bwera Hospital in the region.
The tragedy occurred at night, while students slept in their dormitories.
It is unclear how many militants were involved in the Uganda school shooting massacre, but police say the Islamist terror group were armed with machetes as well as rifles.
According to authorities, the ADF have been involved in attacks for years, and it has been reported that Muslim students were separated before the rest were killed.
