The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has hit yet another snag on Monday, 12 June, owing to presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela’s ill health.
With Judge Maumela reported to be away for a long time, the Meyiwa murder trial has been postponed to 17 July.
News of Judge Maumela’s health was broken to the court by Deputy Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba, who addressed the court in Maumela’s absence.
Legal Expert Mpumelelo Zikalala speaks to Phemelo about proceedings in the Senzo Meyiwa trial.

State witness Zandie Khumalo was not present in court on Monday, as it had reportedly been communicated to her that Judge Maumela would not be present and that the trial would likely be postponed.
This information was, however, not made privy to the Meyiwa family who had made arrangements to be present for the trial for the duration of the week.
Nomalanga Meyiwa, sister to the slain footballer expressed her disappointment at yet another postponement.
Speaking to media after the announcement that the trial has been postponed, an emotional Nomalanga said her family is frustrated that the trial continues to drag on with no end in sight.
“We get her and are told that the Judge has taken ill, on the day. We were not given any information prior, and it’s just frustrating that we keep waiting for justice and answers but there’s just delay after delay.”
Nomalanga wore a T-shirt with her brother’s smiling face, and held back her anger and disappointment when she expressed that her brother’s murder trial feels like it’s going nowhere.
Senzo Meyiwa was shot in October 2014, in an apparent botched robbery in Vosloorus, with his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo and her family present..
The 5 men accused of his murder are Mthobisi Prince, Bongani Sandiso Ntazni, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
