Residents of Bergbron, Johannesburg are requested not to utilize tap water, as contamination in the area continues.
This comes days after City Power contractors reportedly hit a sewage pipe while fixing an electric fault in the area, resulting in raw sewage leaking into fresh water pipes.
The area, nestled between Florida Glen and Cresta, has been isolated since Friday, 02 June, as teams flushed the network and sent samples for laboratory testing.
This has meant parts of Bergbron have remained without water for more than a week, a situation that was exacerbated by the Soweto outage on Thursday, 08 June.
Irate residents of Bergbron have relied on alternate water supply in the form of mobile tankers, and buying bottled water for consumption because there seems to be no end in sight to the contamination problem in the area.
On Monday, 12 June, JHB Water continued to isolate the affected streets, with flushing of the network continuing throughout the weekend and late afternoon on Monday.
According to JHB Water, further samples would be taken for lab tests this afternoon, but residents have been requested not to make use of the water from their taps.
“Customers in the affected streets are requested to refrain from utilizing water from the network until further advised. Alternate supply is made available through a mobile tanker in the above-mentioned streets.
Johannesburg Water (JHB Water) is dedicated to ensuring that the quality of water provided to our customers is at the highest level.
Further updates will be provided to customers. JHB Water apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
