Zandie Khumalo broke down into tears as she recounted Senzo Meyiwa’s final moments after he was shot at her family’s home in Vosloorus in October 2016.
The younger sister to singer Kelly Khumalo shared how they rushed the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates footballer to hospital with a towel wrapped around his chest.
Meyiwa who was dating Kelly Khumalo at the time of his death, was rushed to the hospital by Zandie, Tumelo Madlala, Mthokozisi Twala and Kelly.
Zandie recounted that doctors had confirmed Meyiwa’s death shortly after arriving at Botshelong Hospital.
However, Zandie’s testimony left loopholes, with her version of events not matching that of Mthokozisi Twala, the previous state witness.
While Zandie told the court that she didn’t see the alleged second intruder carrying a firearm, Twala had stated otherwise.
Zandie, along with her sister Kelly, their mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, Tumelo Madlala, Mthokozisi Twala as well as Longwe Twala were all inside the house when the 5 men accused of Meyiwa’s murder allegedly entered.
All five have pleaded not guilty to Meyiwa’s murder, but according to Zandie, Meyiwa was shot during a scuffle with one of the gunmen in the kitchen.
She claims the men entered and demanded their cellphones and money.
The five men accused of murdering Meyiwa are Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
The trial continues.
