Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur will be honoured posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Shakur is set to receive the 2,758th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, June 7, at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard. The rapper will receive his star in the category of Recording.
Guest speakers include Director Allen Hughes and Jamal Joseph, and accepting the star will be Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa Shakur.
“Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come. Surely, as one of L.A.’s own, Tupac’s star will be added to the list of most visited stars.”
The event will be streamed live exclusively at walkoffame.com
Born in New York City and raised in California, Tupac is considered one of the most influential Hip Hop artists of all time.
Through his music, he addressed social issues affecting people of colour in inner cities. Tupac was shot in a drive-by shooting in 1996 which landed in hospital – he passed on days later from injuries.
