The African National Congress (ANC) has condemned with outrage the rape and sexual abuse allegations of two party councillors.
This comes after a viral video of a Matlosana, ward councillor engaging in sexual acts with an underage boy went viral on social media last week.
Since then, the party has suspended councillor Tebogo Sepale, who is also facing rape charges for two 15-year old boys.
In a separate incident, an ANC ward councillor in Kriel, Mpumalanga, has been arrested for the alleged assault and attempted rape of a 12-year old girl.
The ANC condemned the abuse of women and children and said it expects its members and public representatives to demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct and morality.
“The exploitation of women and children are an intolerable affront to the values of the ANC. The ANC commends its two provinces of Mpumalanga and North West for decisive and expeditious responses against this un-ANC behaviour.
We urge our criminal justice system to ensure that those found guilty of these barbaric crimes are given the harshest possible punishment.
Those who commit atrocities and murders against women and children must rot in jail. As a country, we cannot allow thugs who have no respect for human dignity and life to continue abusing, raping and exploiting children and women believe that they can get away with it.”
The ruling party further urged members and the general public to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the scourge of gender-based violence is defeated.
