City Power will no longer respond to outage calls from customers with outstanding bills.
The decision comes as the Johannesburg electricity supplier says its battling pressure on the grid amid loadshedding, and low revenue collection targets.
This includes customers with non-vending meters, non-paying customers or defaulting customers.
City Power is now embarking on a city-wide programme to ensure as many citizens as possible pay their electricity services.
For those who can’t, the City has programmes to assist the indigent residents.
In particular, residents of Naturena, south of Johannesburg have been urged to allow City Power to conduct audits of homes in the area.
Residents in Naturena have been given until Friday, 12 May to all teams to normalise the area and audit meters.
Should residents continue to resist, City Power will no longer respond to power outages in Naturena from 12 May.
Customers with bridged of bypassed meters are encouraged to visit their nearest Service Delivery Center (SDC) to make payment arrangements that are available to customers.

Parts of the city without power for 36-hours
Meanwhile, parts of Johannesburg remain without power for over 36-hours as City Power struggles to fix trips and faults either brought on by inclement weather or loadshedding.
Various parts of Randburg, Roodepoort, Bryanston, Houtkoppen and Auckland Park have gone days without electricity, with no updates regarding power restoration.
Transformers initially tripped on 08 May in the above areas, but none of the areas have been restored since the utility’s last update on the faults at 20h00 on Tuesday, 09 May.
Bellairs Drive, Northriding has experienced extensive power outages for days on end over the past 3 weeks.
Residents in the area say they have logged calls with City Power but have not received any feedback or answers as to an estimated time for restoration.
Power was supposed to have been restored on Bellairs Drive at 22h00 on Tuesday, but on Wednesday, 10 May the area was still a dead zone without power.
