March 24 marks World TB Day.
To commemorate the day in South Africa, some civil society groups are calling on the government to declare TB a national health emergency.
The Treatment Action Campaign is calling for the improvement of services.
The organisation is planning to march in Mpumalanga where it will hold commemorative events to mark the day.
General secretary Anele Yawa says they will hand over a memorandum of demands.
According to the World Health Organisation in 2020, South Africa ranked as one of the top 20 countries with high TB infections.
Tbstats.org reports that an estimated 360,000 South Africans became ill with TB in 2019, and an estimated 58,000 people died from TB.
