The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has confirmed that Hendrick Potgieter Road in Roodepoort has been closed due to a massive sinkhole.
This comes after heavy rains battered Gauteng last week, causing flash floods and damaging a number of roads and homes in Roodepoort and surrounding areas.
In a statement, the department says Hendrick Potgieter Road is closed between Johan and Van Staden streets due to the collapse of the bridge.
Motorists are advised to avoid using the main road as it will remain closed for the foreseeable future until an investigation concludes and repairs are considered.
