South African actress, Linda Sebezo has opened up about her arrest for drug possession, when she was found with R5 million worth of drugs.
The 57-year old actress who’s best-known for her role in Gauteng Maboneng and Isibaya, was arrested on New Year’s Day and spent three months at Sun City Maximum Prison.
Sebezo details how the entire ordeal had traumatised her, because she was arrested for a crime she did not commit.
Speaking on King David’s podcast, Linda said she was shocked when police showed up at her house on New Year’s Day demanding drugs.
“The kept shouting, we want the drugs…where are the drugs? I didn’t know what they were talking about, what drugs did they want?”
The actress said she was released after the magistrate found that she could not have been responsible for the drugs that was found on her property.
“Hey! It was a dark time when I was arrested for something I didn’t do. I was in Sun City Maximum Prison for 3-months!”
Linda Sebezo says the drugs most likely belonged to the previous owner of her home, because the drugs were found to be about 5-years old. She had only lived in the home for 2-years and could therefore not have placed the drugs in the garden tool shed.
Sebezo also shared how she was denied bail because her passport indicated that she had recently returned from international travel and they feared she would flee the country.
The SAFTA-award winning actress said she never gave up because her family knew she was innocent, and in the end the truth came to light.
