Acclaimed South African broadcaster Robert Marawa joins My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose to chat about his new book Gqimm Shelele: The Robert Marawa Story.
Robert Marawa says he was intentional with his book because he almost lost his life.
“It is intentional because life might not have happened after that heart attack. I had to be conscious because these guys wanted my medical. aid card. Before the ambulance moved needed to know where to go.”
He notes that he would not have done the book if it wasn’t for Journalist Wendy Wiener.
“I’m a broadcaster, I don’t know about books but Mandy helped.
“I have to be vulnerable to somebody who is going to be telling my story. So you have to develop a level of trust with the person writing the book.”
After suffering a heart attack that almost claimed his life in 2021, Robert had to find his eternal purpose.
“What do I do that is going to be different? That is why the sports show evolved. Engaging in talk and issues around the administration of the game is what became an important thing.”

On returning to Sports broadcasting
Marawa says it was the fans that made him return to sports broadcasting.
“When I had left the first time I had vowed that I was not going to come back. The power of individuals that absorb what you and I do was overwhelming.
“I was strategic with the show being called Marawa Sports Worldwide because whoever takes over from MSW cannot call it MSW.”
