There’s no end in sight to Joburg’s water crisis after Rand Water’s load shift crashing meant parts of the city have had no supply for 3 days.
On Saturday, 15 October, Joburg Water issued customers a statement indicating that both its Brixton and Hursthill reservoirs would be closed to build capacity.

Both reservoirs would only be opened at 06h00 on Sunday, 16 October to allow capacity to build.
However, by Sunday evening at 21h00 supply had still not been restored and Joburg Water then informed customers that the situation would be rectified by 04h00 on Monday, 17 October.

The utility said in a statement that an emergency meeting would be held on Monday with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to bring sustainable water solutions to Gauteng.
Affected areas without water supply include:
- Montgomery Park
- Westbury
- Hursthill
- Greenside
- Greymont
- Coronationville
- Newlands
- Northcliff
- Auckland Park
- Newclare
- Albertville
- Melville
- Richmond
- Parkview, and
- Emmarentia
Stage 2 water restrictions are still in place due to low supply levels. Joburg Water says supply from its Eikenhof pump was reduced to 50% which is directly affecting parts of the city.
The utility claims water tankers are being supplied to affected areas but there has been no communication as to where residents can access these.
