New evidence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial shows that crime scene was tampered with before police arrived.
This information was laid bare in court on Monday, 06 June during the cross-examination of Sergeant Thabo Johannes Mosia.
Zandile Moshololo, advocate for one of the men accused for the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper’s death, revealed that the crime scene was cleaned before police arrived.
In a statement presented, a woman identified only as Ma Phiri was said to have cleaned and cleared away beer bottles from the crime scene.
Statements 180 and 181 by an unnamed witness reveal that Ma Phiri cleaned up the crime scene because, “she did not want any evidence that they had been drinking in the house.”
This took place before Sergeant Thabo Mosia arrived at the Vosloorus home Meyiwa was gunned down at.
Mosia testified that he was delayed in getting to the house because he struggled to get directions there.
Adv. Moshololo argued that this delay would have given those inside the house the opportunity to tamper with any evidence.
Further evidence revealed that Sergeant Mosia had failed to inspect Meyiwa’s car which was used to rush him to the Botselong Hospital.
“The car was at the scene, however, I did not inspect the car for blood stains because I did not find that to be necessary.”
Sergeant Mosia shared that he neglected to inspect Senzo Meyiwa’s car
Sergeant Mosia then presented to the court images taken from the crime scene which he took on his second visit. The photographic evidence showed place that blood stains were found. Blood stains were not found on the floor but were found in two places in the house.
“There was blood on the TV stand and the couch in the lounge, and on the tiles on the kitchen walls.”
Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial continues in court on Tuesday, 07 June.
