Almost 9 million South Africans reapplied for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. This according to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) whose reapplication process commenced on 23 April.
Of the 9 million people, a large majority are those who had previously applied for the grants during the Covid-19 pandemic.
There has however been an increase in new applications.
To help with the reapplication process for those who are unable to complete for registration online, SASSA introduced a WhatsApp line.
Those who need to apply for the R350 SRD grant can text their information through to the SASSA WhatsApp line below.

In the last cycle, SASSA only approved 10.6 million of the 15 million applications received for the grant.
SASSA spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, had previously explained why the reapplication process was necessary.
SASSA has announced that recipients of the R350 social relief grant will have to reapply after the grants lapsed in March 2022.
This is due to the government ending the National State of Disaster which is where the funds for the grants were allocated.
Since ending the disaster, SASSA says the new legislative frameworks which were put into place require all recipients to reapply for the grant.
The grant was paid under the Disaster Management Act but regulations were shifted to section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, from 5 April.
