Hillary Gardee will be laid to rest on Saturday, 7 May at Kamagugu township in Nelspruit. On Friday, 6 May, the EFF extended an invitation to media to apply for accreditation in order to cover her funeral.
The party and family have called for respect and want a “drama-free” funeral for the 28-year old daughter of former EFF Secretary-General Godrich Gardee.
Hillary was killed after going missing in Nelspruit while grocery shopping on Friday, 29 April. A 3-year old girl whom Hillary was planning on adopting was accompanying her.
The child was unharmed and has been returned safely to the family. Hillary was found by timber plantation workers on Tuesday, 3 May, 45km outside of Nelspruit.
Speculation that the UNISA student was shot and killed execution-style because of the party’s border policy were squashed by Julius Malema.
“Brainless people will always try to find a reason, even where it doesn’t exist.”
There have also been talks that Godrich Gardee launched a Banks Class Action to investigate the crime of banks, including discrimination against black people.
Hillary’s funeral will take place at the Church on the Hill, Nelspruit.
