ANC Ward Councillor Andile Andries and Secretary Lubabalo Keso were shot and killed in KwaNobuhle, Nelson Mandela Bay area.
Both ANC members were fatally shot outside a house on Monday, 2 May, in what is being described as a drive-by shooting.
According to SAPS Eastern Cape, the shooting took place at Andries’ house when both ANC members were leaving. A Toyota Quantam approached the gentlemen and its occupants opened fire on the pair.
Several shots were fired before the suspects fled the scene.
The motive behind their deaths are unknown at this stage and police are investigating whether their murders were politically motivated.
In February, Zwelandile Booi, an ANC ward councillor was shot whilst driving in the Nelson Mandela Bay area.
It is suspected that corruption was at play as the reason the ANC members were gunned down.
Meanwhile the ANC says the party is working with police to bring the suspects to book.
The party’s Regional Secretary in the Nelson Mandela Bay area, Luyolo Nqakula said they want law enforcement to put all resources to find the killers.
Speaking to SABC News Nqakula said, “We are shocked and traumatised as the African National Congress that two of our comrades were brutally gunned down. The reasons behind this heinous crime are unknown at this stage. We are calling on law enforcement to dispense all investigations with a matter of urgency so arrests can be made.”
The party extended its condolences to the two families of comrades Andries and Keso.
