Operation #TshwaneYaTima is in full effect as the City of Tshwane embarks on a mission against default account holders.
The City is owed R17 billion by government departments, embassies, businesses and residential owners and have warned defaulters that services will be disconnected without ‘fear or favour’.
Executive Mayor, Randall Williams said the city has an obligation to recover money due.
“What we’re doing now is escalating the matter, to turn the recovery mission into an operation and to be more visibly active,” Williams addressed the media.
Naming and shaming government departments, businesses and default account holders who owe the city millions in unpaid bills.
Sheraton Hotel reportedly owes the city R23 million and the Department of Higher Education and Training’s bill amounts to over R2 million.

Williams said the city’s debtor’s book has ballooned to R17 billion in unpaid accounts, with residents owing R8 billion.
According to the city, the highest bills are SANDF, the Department of Water and Sanitation, the Commercial Crimes Court and Sheraton Hotel.
Williams was joined by acting City Manager Mmaseabata Mutlaneng on the aggressive revenue-collecting campaign #TshwaneYaTima.
