Herman Mashaba shared the announcement of Trollip joining the party today.
“Athol is a brave South African that I came to respect immediately when I met him.”
“He is principled and honest and one of those rare type of people in politics who says what he means and means what he says.”
Trollip is the latest high-profile member to join ActionSA.
He will fill the role of Provincial Chairperson of the Eastern Cape.
Trollip’s addition to the party is part of the plan to place political heavyweights in leadership positions across the 9 provinces.
The goal is to have each leader activate structures ahead of the 2024 national and provincial elections.
The decision to place Trollip in a leadership position in the Eastern Cape is based on his extensive experience in both politics and agriculture.
His involvement in these two sector makes him a well-known figure in the Eastern Cape.
With two decades of political experience, ActionSA describes Trollip as an asset who is able to communicate fluently in the three main languages of the province, isiXhosa, English, and Afrikaans.
In his considerable career Athol has:
- served as a Councillor in the Amathole District Council
- a Leader of the Opposition in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature;
- the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly;
- Provincial Leader of the Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape;
- National Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance; and

Mashaba says he is confident that ActionSA will become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Cape as they work towards the 2024 elections.
