The Department of Education is aware there are learners who are still not place on the first day of school.
As all inland schools return for the 2022 academic year on 12 January, the department still faces the challenge of placing Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners.
Briefing media on the department’s readiness for the start of school, Education Minister Angie Motshekga called for patience.
The minister said the department is doing all that is possible to meet the challenges.
According to the department 1 465 learners remain unplaced. However, the Western Cape Department of Education notes that nearly 4 000 learners do not have placement yet.
Nearly 602 Grade 1s and 3 261 Grade 8s in the Western Cape are without schools.
There are also 17 000 late applications that were accommodated.
Despite the lack of placement, the department believes that all systems are in place for the first day of school.
Coastal schools make a return on Wednesday, 19 January.
The Education Minister said the rotational structure that was implemented last year will continue.
