The class of 2021 will not have their matric results published in newspapers or on any online platforms. This is due to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) made the announcement a short while ago. POPIA came into effect in July 2021 and aims to protect against the dissemination of personal information.
Matric results have always been published in newspaper publications in South Africa with media outlets following results on the day of release.
Results are released with matriculants’ ID and examination numbers. The DBE issued media the notice this morning, pending the results which will be released on 21 January.
Matriculants can obtain their results from their schools.
Basic Education Minister, Angie Mlotshekga is expected to brief the media later today on school readiness.
The minister will share more information on the department’s changes and preparedness for the start of the 2022 academic year.
