The Hawks seized R3-million worth of drugs and arrested four men following a raid in Benoni on Tuesday.
The Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Germiston and the West Rand K9 Unit acted after receiving a tip-off.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, says they were informed about an illegal drug manufacturing laboratory in Benoni.
“The investigation team followed up on intelligence regarding suspicious drug-related activities in the Lakefield area. A search and seizure warrant was issued and police kept surveillance at the positively identified premises,” she says.
Officers found the men allegedly processing the drugs when they arrived at the property.
“The drugs, known as CAT, carry an estimated street value of R3 million. Police seized drug manufacturing equipment, chemicals, two vehicles, a Nissan NP200 as well as an Almera for further investigation,” Mulamu says.

Suspects charged with illegal drug dealing
Police charged four suspects, aged between 23 and 42, with illegal dealing in drugs.
The suspects are due in the Benoni Magistrates’ Court on Friday. Investigations continue.
Earlier this week, police seized drugs with a street value of R400, 000 in Durban. The operation was part of the SAPS’ Safer Festive Season Operations.
Captain Nqobile Gwala says officers received information about drugs that were retained in a building on Anton Lembede Street.
“The team proceeded to the identified apartment where they found 2.1 million empty capsules sealed in clear plastic bags and heroin powder. The capsules were destined for packing and distribution of heroin in the Durban Metro area.”
Gwala says the suspects are still at large.
“The police are still searching for the suspects. Disruptive operations are still on-going and the community in the province should expect more police visibility.”
