This week, Rihanna was named the 11th national hero of her country, Barbados.
Looking at South Africa, who do you think is our national hero and deserves more recognition?
This should be someone who has touched all corners of the country and has represented us on an international level.

A listener shares, “My Rihanna is the woman who does Ndebele drawings; that woman is my Rihanna.”
Another caller says that Trevor Noah is a national hero as he has done exceptionally well both internationally and locally while someone else vouched for Miss Lira.
Our very own Andy Maqondwana has three people she believes deserve to be named national heroes. “I have three, Trevor Noah, Thuso Mbedu; I love her because she lays low and keeps firing. The third one is Makhadzi – I’m willing to bet money on her.”

- People who are ambassadors for their countries without even being asked to be – It doesn’t matter where they are in the world; they hold our flag up high. They advocate for it.
- People who can use their influence to attract others to their county – These people can use their influence to lure people to South Africa. They are pushing tourism, food, the people, and culture.
- People who are natural humanitarians – Being a humanitarian means helping people who are suffering and saving lives. And so, humanitarian work requires being responsible, conscious of the circumstances of other people’s lives, and helping them based on need, without discrimination.
