Two people were killed in a murder-suicide in Tumahole in the Free State. This as the country is in the middle of 16 Days of Activism – an anti-gender-based violence campaign.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson Grace Langa says the officer arrived at his parents’ home in Lusaka Section on Wednesday.
The officer’s girlfriend arrived at the same time. Langa says he then gave his brother money to pay the television bill.
“The brother had just left when he heard a gunshot. He ran back inside to find out what was going on and the cop fired a shot in his direction so he would leave. The suspect fired more shots,” she says.
The police officer then turned the gun on himself.
“He shot his partner nine times; in the head, stomach, chest, and leg. He then shot himself once in the mouth. Ten empty cartridges were found at the scene,” Langa says.
She adds that investigations are continuing.
Less than a week ago, a police officer allegedly shot his girlfriend after she found him with another woman. Langa says the Eastern Cape officer shot the woman six times.
Langa says the woman went to the officer’s house and found the man asleep with another woman in his bed.
The pair argued and the officer shot the woman. Langa says police arrested the man. His gun was also confiscated.
The matter is under investigation.
