Alutha Pasile has been handed a 25-year prison sentence for the murder of Fort Hare student, Nosicelo Mtebeni.
Pasile was further sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for attempting to defeat the course of justice.
Last month, Pasile pleaded guilty to murdering and dismembering the 23-year-old woman’s body.
NPA spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani says Pasile confessed to murdering the woman after he found messages on her phone.
“He confronted her and accused her of cheating. Evidence presented by Senior State Advocate Nickie Turner during aggravation of sentence however, reveals that in fact these messages were sent to Mtebeni by Pasile in 2019,” she says.

Overwhelming evidence against Pasile
Advocate Turner told the court that Pasile’s guilty plea was not a sign of remorse as the evidence against him was overwhelming.
“He had no choice but to plead guilty to both counts in view of the fact that the hands and head of the deceased were found in his flat together with the equipment purchased by him for the purpose of dismembering her.”
On 19 August at about 7am, a 36-year-old man was walking on the streets of Quigney in East London.
The man overheard two school girls expressing their shock and disgust about how sick people in Quigney were.
The man then approached the girls as he wanted to find out what they were talking about. They told him that there were two bags at a nearby garbage dumping site that contained human body parts.
Police were called in and investigations got underway. Pasile was arrested just days later.
Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Barry Madolo, has welcomed the prison term imposed.
