Senzo Meyiwa’s brother Sifiso says the 5 men accused of his brother’s death are innocent. This comes after a date was set in the footballer’s murder trial.
The former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot in October 2014.
The 5 men are Mthobisi Prince, Bongani Sandiso Ntazni, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
They made a brief appearance in the Pretoria High Court in Palm Ridge where the trial date was set for April 2022. The men were arrested in October 2020 after Police Minister Bheki Cele announced there had been a breakthrough.
Meyiwa was apparently at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo‘s house in Vosloorus when the men entered and began shooting him.

Senzo Meyiwa’s brother is convinced police have the wrong suspects. Speaking to media outside the court this afternoon, he said the arrests came out of nowhere because suddenly there were confessions.
“The minister knows, the investigations into this case is has been on-going since 2018 or 2019. Then another team was appointed by the national commissioner Khehla Sithole. They came in when Cele’s team were about to make an arrest and said the 5 men confessed. A 6th suspect came forward wanting to confess but they dropped charges. These 5 men admitted they killed Senzo because they were beaten in jail to admit it. Their families were promised money. The police are lying.” Sifiso told the media.
