The Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi is in its fifth year. This year the event is taking place in at Kabumba Hotel in Salima about 2 hours east of the Capital Lilongwe. The music festival, which took a break in 2017, brings thousands of music and art lovers to the shore of Lake Malawi which the second deepest lake in Africa, after lake Tanganyika in.

Malawian Afro-pop band Sauti Sol, South African Afro-soul singer Berita and three member producer DJ Major Lazer are expected to perform at the festival taking place from the 28th to the 30th of September.

Berita, who will be performing at the festival for the first time says she is happy to showcase her music at one of Africa’s biggest musical festival. With advancements in technology artists are having to find ways or monitoring their music and stages like the Lake of Stars provide a great marketing platform.
This year the festival is set to attract at least five thousand festival goes, over 80 acts from across the continent and Europe on five stages. Many, Malawians who run small businesses, will be out at the Lake of Stars Festival in full-force exhibiting and selling food. As with many festivals across the world, the Lake of Stars Festival offers an opportunity to locals looking to make a bit more money than they usually would in their businesses. We’ve met women with mobile food trucks, one of them says her retired 70-year-old father made it for her and it’s her first time at the festival.
