A Pretoria man, who claimed his R17 million Powerball Plus winnings this week, has big plans.
The 47-year-old electrician bought his winning ticket at the Super Spar at the Silver Oaks Crossing Centre, just hours before the draw.
He is planning to have the wedding of his dreams in December.
Using the Quick Pick selection method, he selected the winning numbers – 1, 12, 36, 38, 41, and PowerBall 7.
The man said a few days after the draw he checked his ticket.
“When I realised that I had matched all six numbers, I immediately checked on the national lottery website to see how many other players had won the PowerBall Plus jackpot,” he said.
The man added that he was shocked to learn that he was the one lucky winner.
Family man
The man told national lottery operator, Ithuba, that he was building a home for his family. and was planning on using it to complete and then furnish the home.
“My fiancée and I are getting married in December, a portion of the winnings will go towards our dream wedding and honeymoon, most probably at an exotic location once the pandemic is over,” he said.
He said he was planning on investing and buying shares in a telecommunications company.
“As a father of two young kids, I want to make sure that they have a good life and receive the best opportunities,” he said.

Unemployed mom bags R158m jackpot
Earlier this month, the wheels of fortune turned in favour of an unemployed North West mother who bagged the R158m Powerball jackpot.
This catapulted her into the position of the second-highest Powerball jackpot winner in the country.
Using the Absa banking app and spending just R15 on the winning ticket, she manually selected the winning numbers – 5, 12, 15, 28, 29, and PowerBall number 14.
The woman said she was not lucky but was blessed.
“I’m still in disbelief, overwhelmed yet very excited. The money could not have come at a better time for my family as I lost my job last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the woman said.
She said despite missing the live draw, she checked the results via the app and was stunned with what she saw.
“When I saw the winning PowerBall numbers, I knew that I had won the Powerball jackpot of R158m but I kept on checking the numbers throughout the day to ensure that I was not mistaken or that I would wake up from a dream,” she said.
Having never travelled to Durban, she said she planned to travel to the coastal city to holiday with her family near the sea.
She added that she will keep a portion to build and furnish the home of her dreams. She also wants to invest some for her family and donate to charity.
