Culinary expert, Zola Nene, recently joined The Best T In The City with Tbose to share her love for delicious food and how it all came full circle. Her culinary career spans over 10 years which began during her 2-year study gap in England. Her earliest memory of making food was watching her grandmother cooking mielie bread (isonka sembila)
“I love the fact that food is always such a memorable part of family life, whether it be funerals, weddings, there’s food. Every time there’s a gathering there’s always food.”
With two published, award-winning cookbooks, Simply Delicious (2016) and Simply Zola (2018) under her belt, she also cooks on TV, develops recipes and does food styling for publications as well as brands. She has also taken up French lessons to expand her knowledge of making food, saying the foundation of many dishes is of French origin. She shared some of her music, and defended the misconception that she occasionally cooks with too much wine.
“There’s no such thing as too much wine, when you cook with wine, and drink wine it makes you happy.”
Zola also explained why eating healthy tends to be hard, saying convenient fast foods are less expensive than the healthier options. Zola has also been a resident chef on Expresso Morning Show on SABC 3. She now hosts Celeb Feast with Zola which began broadcasting in 2018 on Mzansi Magic on DSTV.
