Police have arrested a woman in connection with her husband’s death at Luka Village, just outside Rustenburg.
Officers have launched a manhunt for a second suspect believed to have been the hitman in the crime.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani says tenants in the couple’s backroom heard gunshots.
“They went to investigate and saw the man lying in a pool of blood. They called the police and an ambulance,” Funani says.
The deceased was on his way to work at the time.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim sustained several gunshot wounds on his upper body. He was certified dead at the scene.
It is alleged that the couple had been arguing.
The wife is due in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Tlhabane on Friday.

Funani says the motive for the murder is unknown.
Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the incident. He congratulated Phokeng Detectives for their swift reaction.
Last week, the Northern Cape High Court sentenced a 34-year-old woman for the murder of her partner.
Marope Lenah Molale stabbed Kevin Lebogang Moitsimang after the pair got into an argument.
Earlier that same day, Molale accused her lover of having an affair with another woman.
Molale was sentenced to two years imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm on count one.
She also received 14 years imprisonment on a charge of murder on count two.
Meanwhile, Nancy Majonhi, arrested after allegedly confessing to murdering her partner and cutting his body into parts before burying it in pit toilets near Sun City, has yet to re-appear in court.
The NPA says Majonhi’s legal representatives issued the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court with a medical report stating she was unwell.
“In relation to her mental evaluation, the medical report indicates her reluctance to eat and take prescribed medication as a concerning factor.
“She will remain in hospital under severe observation in an effort to improve on her health and mental status before her next court appearance,” says NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame.
