Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his 36-year-old girlfriend.
Lerato Mosia, a primary school teacher in Soweto, was found dead in her flat. Police said Mosia was strangled and stabbed to death.
SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police received information about a woman who might have been killed and locked inside a flat in Jabulani.
“Officers went to the flat and broke the door open. The body of a woman, with a stab wound on the upper body, was discovered,” he said.

Suspect found in KZN
Masondo said police tracked the suspect to KwaZulu-Natal.
“Investigations led the police to KZN where the suspect was found in hospital with suspicions that he poisoned himself.”
The suspect was placed under police guard and will be charged with murder as soon as he recovers.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said he was saddened by Mosia’s passing.
“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to her family and the entire school community. She played a vital role as an educator at Mara Primary School and in her community. As such, a void has been created due to her passing and we will implore law enforcement agencies to apprehend those who were involved in her death,” he said.
In a separate matter, a Mpumalanga woman and her two children were shot dead, allegedly by the woman’s husband, who is also their father. The man then turned the gun on himself.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela said police and emergency teams rushed to the scene where the woman and one child were declared dead.
“The other child was already taken for medical treatment by a family member but was also certified dead on arrival in hospital.
“The SAPS members opened a case with three counts of murder and an inquest. Preliminary investigation indicates that after shooting the three members of his family, the husband reportedly called other members of the family to inform them of what had occurred before turning the gun on himself.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, meanwhile circumstances surrounding this shocking incident are being investigated,” Manamela said.
