Amapiano artist and producer, Abidoza features on the Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30 with DJ Keyez. The multi-talented producer who enjoyed a No.1 spot with Cassper Nyovest on Siyathandana shares his excitement about a new project that’s on the cards.
Amogelang Thorne Chabangu, better known as Abidoza, was born and raised in Marokolong Hammanskraal. The name means “acceptance” and his middle name is an ode to his mother’s love for the soapie Days Of Our Lives.
“You must know Days Of Our Lives, there was a character, Thorne, I think my mother had a crush on him.”
Amapiano artist Abidoza on his name
The artist moved around a lot because his mom wanted to explore different places. From Hammanskraal, his family moved to Vosloorus and then Atterridgeville, a township in Pretoria.
His nickname, Abidoza was given to him by a friend, Shoeshoe in high school. “There was this guy in the hood, in Atteridgeville called Abi Madombolo. This guy would always have a plan and my friends thought I was like him in that, nothing got to me, like I always made a plan. So, that’s how the name came about.”
Abi Madombolo, aka Abidoza attended Voortrekkerhoogte High School, which means his Afrikaans is baie goed, dankie.
With a 10-year career in the music industry, the artist started his journey as a DJ and then later progressed to producing.
Fast forward to 2018
After high school the artist got into production and went into tertiary but later told his mom that he needed to drop out and follow his dreams.
Starting off earning just R1, 500 a month at his first temporary job, and then later earning R4, 000 which to him at the time was a huge amount of money, he realized he wasn’t happy.
In 2018, his first hit with Tumza D’Kota and Tsitso was born. Baby Boy launched his brand and in 2019, Abidoza dropped his debut album Musical Touch.

With Black Child, Abidoza wanted to remind his fans that anything is possible. The focus for him and his music career was never about the money, or fame, it was about something more than material satisfaction.
His dreams were realized with this production, and the message that somethings in life cannot be bought with money echoes throughout the album.
“It’s about being human and the little things that mean the world. There are certain offerings we can give that don’t cost a thing.”
