The bullying took place on Monday morning and was reported to the police on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the South African Police Service, Mavhunga reportedly went home in the afternoon and on arrival, she allegedly locked herself in the room and consumed an overdose of tablets.
Police say she was apparently found by her mother lying unconscious and was taken to Siloam Hospital where she was certified dead on arrival.
VhaVenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana says they have never experienced such an incident and are highly disappointed.
The Limpopo education department has launched an independent investigation into the matter.
At the same time – the police’s Motlafela Mojapelo has confirmed that a 15-year-old girl has been arrested following the incident.
After the video of the bullying emerged, many people took to social media sharing their experiences of bullying and asked for justice to prevail.
#JusticeForLufuno trended on Tuesday.
Bullying should be a crime. Perpetrators (learners) must go to “jail” for mandatory rehabilitation during their sentence. Now a family has to bury their daughter, wow. ? (And I’m not insensitive to understand that the guilty girl is hurting too, but not this!) #JusticeForLufuno

What drew me to even view that video was how beautiful your dark skin was & how you wore your natural hair with so much confidence.?
